Customer Friendly Advice for Obtaining Bids

As someone who has been in the industry for 18 years now, I would like to share some friendly advice when talking with pool contactors and trying to obtain a design or bid for your project. I have dealt with so many people and I hate to say it, but people cease to amaze me both in good and “not-so good” ways. In fact, most of the time I would say I am playing the role of psychologist instead of pool designer.  My goal out of every meeting other than finding out what they are interesting in doing is to try and find out what their expectations are. If I can then meet or exceed those expectations, the whole process is much smoother. The key to finding out what those expectations can be done by being transparent!! I cant tell you how simple this is and is by far the easiest way to get what you want when us contractors know, other wise we are guessing and then perceived of up selling or not listening. I understand some people may be wanting bids for projects down the road or just want to entertain the idea of doing something with no real expectation of pulling the trigger right away.  Either way as a common curtiousy to human decency, you give us the benefitof the doubt and we will return the favor and then some.
